By His Blood – God is Not Angry at You

Colossians 1:20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

There are no words to express the depths of what God has done to express his love towards us by the Finished Work of the cross. Many people struggle to relate to God because they have these twisted pictures of Who God is. We think Jesus is the nice God, but the Father is the old Zeus-like character ready to fry you on a moment’s notice.

Heaven help us, if Jesus ever went on a bathroom break! Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. We think, well the only reason God loves me, is because of Jesus, because there is nothing lovable in me. We create these dualistic understandings, that God really doesn’t love us as we are. God really loves Jesus and we get to sneak in through Christ and steal some of that love in our Jesus suit.

Or we think that God is wearing Jesus goggles that filter out all of you and only show him, making us the Jacob-like character, that is only loved because of the outfit we have on. These concepts of God, make him distant, and unrelated. Further, they are nowhere found in Scripture.

John 3:16a For God so loved the world…

The world used in that passage, was not a world full of Christians. It was in fact, a sinful, evil, idol-worshiping society of sexual perversion, murders, and haters of God. That was the state of the World, when that verse was penned, and it says God looked at us and we took his breathe away with love. That is when God sent us His Absolute Best; his Great blessing, the Highest expression of Himself possible, his Son Jesus Christ.

And when we were still enemies to God, Jesus Christ died for us, expressing the greatest Love possible (John 15:13), while we were still unbelievers and dead in our sins (Romans 5:8). Humanity was then adopted by God (Ephesians 1:5), reconciled and forgiven (2 Corinthians 5:19 ), all because of Jesus and before we were believers (Ephesians 2:5). The cross is so powerful, that humanity stands innocent before God (1 John 2:2).

That even the child molester, murder rapist in the deepest darkest hole somewhere on the planet, is forgiven and innocent before God because of the Blood of Jesus. Even before they express Faith in Christ, they are forgiven and accepted by the Father. That does not mean that person is saved, and none of these objective truths have any effect in the person’s life without faith, but when God looks at Humanity, he really sees us as we are, not a Jesus suit. He sees us after the effects of Finished work applied to our individual lives. We stand before God reconciled, innocent, righteous and as one of his unique Children in his sight (Colossians 1:20).

John 15:9  As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Jesus said these words, before the Cross, to people who were still in darkness. As the Father hath loved Jesus, that same extent and measure found only in the mystery of the Trinity; That is the same way that Jesus loves you. He cannot love us anymore or any less than how much He loves us right now, and He loved us that much before we believed and the same amount after we believed.

If the unbeliever can be seen as innocent because of the Blood, how much more, we who are believers can rest in the knowledge of His Love and the power of his Blood, to know that God is completely at peace with our relationship with Him. By expressing Faith in what Christ has done, and in the Love that God has towards us, we give the Godhead the one thing the have desired of us, access into our lives to be Loved by Him.

Isaiah 54:9-10  For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth (Angry) with thee, nor rebuke thee.  For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
