“The Apostles were healing on Credit because Jesus was not whipped yet.” – Pete Cabrera Jr.
Healing is part of the finished Work of Jesus Christ. We remember it every time we do communion, that his body was broken for our healing. At the Whipping Posts, all of humanity was included and every healing was performed at that moment. In the Old Testament, healing was by faith, looking forward to the promises of what Jesus would eventually do. Today, in the New Covenant, healing is a fact, because the whipping post is a staple of history.
God really wanted everyone to be healed and walk in health. There are basically four ways He has provided means for us to have life in our physical bodies for each place we are at. Firstly, For the unbeliever, healing is a sign (Mark 16:17), by the laying on of the believer’s hand onto the unbelieving sick person, they can be healed. For the new believer who doesn’t have faith for themselves, we are told to call the elders and they will come, anoint with oil and the prayer of faith will heal the sick (James 5:14-16).
If you are a mature Christian, you can be healed by Communion.
1 Corinthians 11:29 – 30 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
The damnation of Communion is not sin as some would have you believe. In fact, if you have sin, you need to drink the cup of Communion by faith, as a testimony that by his Blood all your sins are forgiven (Ephesians 4:32 )! The Condemnation in this passage is “Not Discerning the Lord’s Body. ”
The entire context is that believers were eating and drinking Communion like any other meal, where some were drunk and other were not fed (1 Corinthians 11:21). That is the condemnation that Paul is writing about. As such, if we do the reverse and actually discern the Lord’s Body and understand the Covenant we stand in, we will not be weak, sickly or dead.
The last way we can be healed and walk in divine health, is simply by believing the Word, “by his stripes, you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). You can walk through this life in perfect health, by faith in what Jesus has done, without any need for further intervention from yourself or others. God has made every provision for us to walk in health, and ensure that his Son was not beaten in vain. I pray we each found ourselves in good health as we prosper in the knowledge of what Jesus Christ has done for us by his Body and by his Blood.
