By His Blood – Do Christians have a Sin Nature?

And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” – Jesus Christ

I once heard a preacher talk about the way an aeroplane flies. He talked about how the Law of Gravity is acting on the plane at all times, but there is a superior Law, called the law of Aerodynamics that super-cedes the law of Gravity and creates Lift. That is how heavy aeroplanes can overcome gravity to fly, and he then equated this to the Christian walk. He went on to explain that our sinful nature in our flesh constantly leads us to do evil, while our Divine nature in our Spirit constantly wants to serve God and do what is right, and we believers must choose to do right in our Minds. The more we train our minds to listen to the Spirit, we will overcome sin.

Many in the Church believe this is the condition that the believer finds themselves in, and, as Jesus said, you cannot have victory if you are divided against yourself. Jesus did more for us, than leave us in a state of limbo. Paul writes in Colossians 2:11 – When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. (NLT) We no longer have a sinful nature, we only have one Nature, the Divine Nature (2 Peter 1:4). We are no longer under the power of a Sinful Nature (Romans 8:9). We are dead to sin (Romans 6:2), as such sin no longer has any power over us (Romans 6:14 ). To make the aeroplane analogy work, gravity is not super-ceded, rather it is completely gone!

So why are so many struggling? Simple, if the knowledge of the truth is what sets men free (John 8:32 ), then what is it that keeps men in bondage? Lies. If you are struggling with sin, it is not time to buck up, try harder and really try to live right this time, rather it is to find the Lies that keep you trapped and replace them with Truth. Generally Believers don’t know the Truth about all that the Cross has accomplished for us. Rather they believe the lie that they are in a battle against a sin nature that only exists in their mind. The Longer Satan can keep us fighting the wind, we are not fighting him, and advancing the kingdom. If we continue to believe we have a sinful nature, we will continue to manifest the fruits of sin by our faith. (Proverbs 23:7)

There is a real Battle out there as a Christian, but it is not against our sin nature, rather it is against our carnal thinking, and to believe in all that Jesus has said is true about us. The more we believe in what Jesus says is true about us, the more we will walk in the Freedom and the Christ Life that he purchased for us.
